Learn Aloe Vera History

Aloe VeraAloe Vera has many names. Scientists usually name it Aloe barbadensis, Aloe elegans Tod, Aloe perfoliata, or Aloe vulgaris Lam. Aloe means the native plant in Africa. Vera means genuine. So Aloe Vera is the genuine native plant in Africa. One aloe vera plant can grow up to 100 centrimeters (equals to 39"). As you can see at the picture, it's thick, green, and not so beautiful.

There are plenty of species in Aloe kingdom. However, Aloe vera is the closest species to Aloe perryi. Originally, Aloe vera came from North Africa countries. It contains calcium, vitamins, amino acids, sodium, enzymes, and nitrogen. Since 500 A.D., Aloe vera has been used as medicines to cure various diseases. Diarrhea, kydney problems, gastric problems, and hepatitis are just four of many diseases that have been linked with aloe vera since centuries ago.

Nowadays, Aloe vera also is being linked with cancer treatment, skin health, and digestion process. You shouldn't be surprised if you see many skin care products use aloe vera as one of their main ingredients. Even cosmetic products like tissues or soaps sometime use aloe vera too. Probably aloe vera is the most popular ingredient in health industry since early 90s until today.

In Africa Aloe vera was used only as medicines. But in modern days people also use aloe vera for burn and wound healing although until today there is no scientific proof that aloe vera could increase the speed of healing process. According to Wikipedia, the oral use of aloe vera even could balance your blood glucose levels and your blood lipids.

Aloe vera can also be used as immunostimulant to fight cancers. Unfortunately, several people died after they used the extract compounds from aloe vera. So we don’t reconsider aloe vera as treatment for cancers. Aloe vera’s effectiveness for cosmetics and kidney diseases also remains anonymous. But there are clinical studies that link aloe vera with skin care, general health, blood pressure, and kidney diseases.

Aloe vera’s main benefits have attracted many people’s attention. Who doesn’t know aloe vera these days? However, just like any other profitable ingredients, fake aloe veras are everywhere nowadays. You should be aware of this issue as there are plenty of aloe vera gels and juices which actually do not use the real aloe vera at all.
